About this place
Along Komagome’s Satsuki-dori, 酒処のんべえ makes it easy to pick a few small plates to suit the mood, with menu slips and the written menu to browse. There is a generous selection of seafood. Sashimi options include tuna nōten—the meat from the tuna’s head—with a pleasant trace of fat, and house-cured mackerel with a firm cure, both well suited to go with a first drink. Seasonal catches such as fresh firefly squid, amberjack and bonito may also be on offer, adding another reason to enjoy choosing from the menu each time.
The fried dishes are another strong point: there is crisp conger eel tempura, fried lotus root stuffed with filling, and an assortment of five fried skewers. Warm plates are available at reasonable prices, too, from aromatic house-made thick fried tofu and a popular tofu steak to potatoes sautéed with basil. They make for a table that soon feels full of variety.
Drinks range from draft beer and various sours to carefully selected junmai sake from across Japan and shochu. Open until 1 am Tuesday through Saturday and midnight on Sundays, it can suit a late-night drink or a casual meal when dining alone.
